First, the export test. Before you scan anything seriously, check what file formats the app gives you and whether exports cost extra. An app that makes beautiful models you cannot take to your store is a toy, not a tool. GLB and USDZ are the formats that matter for ecommerce. Everything else is a bonus, and bonuses do not pay rent.

Second, the ugly product test. Scan the hardest thing you sell, not the easiest. Shiny, transparent, dark, or fuzzy products break scanners in ways matte ceramics never will. Third, the time test. How long from opening the app to having a model on your product page, cleanup and upload included. An app that takes forty-five minutes per product does not scale past a hobby catalog, no matter how good the results look. Time is the hidden price tag.

Fourth, the repeat test. Scan the same product twice on different days. If the results vary wildly, the app is sensitive to conditions you cannot control in a warehouse, and that is a problem you will feel at product number fifty, not product number five. Consistency is a feature. An underrated one.
